We discovered that Microsoft's latest version of WORDPAD (Win7 and above) automatically inserts hyperlinks in blue, underlined format if any text says “http:…..” There is no way to turn this off.
This causes protected text errors in Centricity, and you can’t use Word to paste directly anymore, for obvious reasons.
We have many handouts and letters that have hyperlinks in them, to places like the NIH, smokefree.gov, etc. This is a problem now if you want to revise the handouts, they can't be pasted back from Wordpad into Centricity without pasting in blue and thus protected text.
I found a free text editor online called Jarte - I can take text in Wordpad rtf or from Word, and wash it though Jarte (have to save and reopen with the “automatic hyperlinks” option turned OFF in Jarte)
And then it cut and pastes NICELY into Centricity….saving the formatting for any original MSWord tables and page breaks, etc…
A nice tool for the handout and letter toolbox.
Hope this helps someone else who may have been tearing their hair out over this.
Cheers.
Great information - thanks!
I was working on a long Letter for EMR yesterday (wordpad, win 7, EMR 9.8). Ran into an issue of my MEL code not being recognized, until I copied the MEL code statements out of the Letter, pasted it into notepad, copied it back in place in the letter - then the MEL worked. Must of been some hidden character somewhere in the if..then..else..endif statements. So going to give Jarte a try. Thank you ! - B
