I need help figuring out how the "Additional Signature Required" permissions work.
We have an RN that does most of our Annual Wellness Visits. I had her signing privileges set up to be able to sign with an additional signature required so her visits could be signed off by a provider after reviewing her notes.
After discovering A LOT of unsigned docs on her desktop I inquired about the hold-up and she said she wasn't able to sign them at all.
So.....Does any one understand how the Additional Signature Required permissions work? If it just makes it so the person with the additional signature required can't sign at all what is the purpose in having it as an option?
Emily
Hi Emily,
We also struggled with this workflow, so much so that I opened a case with Athena for an explanation. I can send you the documentation and screen shots that were sent to me by Athena which you may find helpful.
I see your email on your details so I will email you this as it is too much to copy/paste here.
Thanks - Janet
As I recall, when you sign with add'l sig required, the document must be routed to another user with the reason set to "Signature."

For those reading and wondering, in essence, additional signature required means the user with the credential can sign the document but it will remain in an unsigned state until another user counter-signs the same document. As mentioned, the typical workflow is that the use signs the document, then routes it to another user who has 'final signing' credentials.
Think in terms of Residents, NPs and PAs who need their Attending/Supervising provider to approve and countersign their note before it is considered 'signed'.
