It has been a long battle but we finally get useful screenshots from users (lots of times), when they email the helpdesk. What they forget a lot of the time though, is to include the name of their computer. I would love to have a small app which I could run to put the workstatino name near the clock in the system tray because I usually see it in the screen shots anyway. Here is what I am thinking...
Our workstations are WS01 through WS120 so it would easily fit the entire name from the COMPUTERNAME value. A lot of the time I refer to screen shots when talking to GE about cases which ended up in their queue and I have to scramble to find the computer name to dig up log files and such
Anyone?
This isn't exactly the same as your screenshot, but we use BG Info. It's easy to setup, and it's FREE.
Works for XP and Win 7:
Right click on the Task Bar and choose Toolbars, New Toolbar. In the dialog labelled Folder type \\%computername% and click Ok. You will see the computer name and clicking the double arrow to the right of the name will even give you some options.

Woohoo! That is awesome, thanks for the tip. Now I need to send that out with a GPO
Thanks again

Yep, been using BGinfo from the sysinternals days but it doesn't show up on the screenshots unless I get really lucky. I also rename "my computer" to the workstation name but people still don't know the names of their computers.
I really have given up on the human part. The toolbar tip in the next reply is awesome and exactly what I need
Mike
Awwwww Thanks
