We are looking to imbed within Centricity a good ICD10 search engine to assist our providers with the switch to ICD10 on Oct. 1st. One where the provider can type in a key word to locate ICD10 codes? Any recommendations?
Also, any recommendations for an ICD9 to ICD10 conversion engine...for example, I type in the ICD9 code and it gives me the ICD10 equivalent(s).
Are you running CPS or CEMR? What version/service pack are you on?
We are currently on CPS 12.0.10 and are using Blackbird. Very easy to use and works well within CPS.
We are CPS 12.0.10. So what exactly is Blackbird? Is it a service that allows our providers to conduct string word searches for ICD10 codes? The idea would be to avoid having to use the complicated built in reference list of ICD 10 codes in Centricity that use the yellow folder structure of having to expand and expand until you drill down to the nth degree to find what you need.
Blackbird is a third party application added into CPS. It basically looks like the new HTML forms for the Immu and Med admin. It does do string word searches. What I like about this is that it provides the ability to add the Laterality and meets all the specificity that ICD-10 requires. Look at the bottom of this page as Blackbird is a Sponsor for this site! Contact them to see a Demo!
Blackbird works very well providers like it a lot. It is similar to what GE is to release in SP11.
Are you using the HTML forms with Blackbird. We are not currently using those. Do you know if Blackbird would work for us without using the HTML forms?
I would think it should. The best bet would be to reach out to them and they can best answer your questions!
Blackbird.
Not to join the echo here, but Black Bird has been an awesome tool for our clinicians and staff. We are multi specialty and needed something to assist everyone.
Our practice is not using the HTML forms, we are actually EMR 9.8 on the oracle database.
Blackbird works great - we just use a quick text to open the application. It connects directly to the patient chart and any changes/updates you make using the blackbird tool are updated in the EMR in real-time. No issues with slowness on our system. We have been using the product for several months.
The great thing about BlackBird is that not only is the 'search' super simplified, but the application will prompt the providers for more specific information, like manifestations/complications with DM or right/left laterality for appropriate conditions.
It shows you the ICD-9, ID-10, and SNOMED codes - and you can see the codes update when you select additional specificities.
Here is the link to their site -they have an awesome 4 minute video that does a great job showing the capability. And the product is very cost efficient.

We are using Blackbird and for it to work in EMR/CPS it MUST use the HTML form.
I know this because we were going to try to get it for one of our systems on 9.5 and this was before GE implemented using the HTML for so it wouldn't work.
Blackbird is great, very lightweight and relatively cheap ($150/year per provider? something like that).
If you don't use the HTML and/or don't need it integrated, you can use IMO.
IMO looks just like Blackbird (because they are partnered) but is not integrated into the EMR. You would have to just pull it up in a browser. It's $1000 for 25 licenses (bundles of 25).
We are very happy with Blackbird.
We are using blackbird as well, and are happy with it. To implement, it requires IE10 or greater...so, we had to upgrade our version of IE as we had been on 9.
+1 for Blackbird
We created both of these inside Centricity via the links option and our staff love it
