Is it me or is there very little traffic on here since the mail list went away?

I agree. I think lots of folks haven't signed up yet; and are waiting until they have a problem and need to post to do it. Esp those not used to RSS feeds. Just my 2 cents
We have about 1,000 people signed up and were expecting more like 2,500. I believe you are correct that we will get them as they have needs.
RSS feeds are definately the way to go now.
I also think that there is less traffic in part because it is not as easy to reply to a post, as we previously could reply via email. Replying now requires the extra steps to logon to the site and then find the topic. This is more time consuming, especially in a busy environment with limited snippits of time.
Traffic is only a bit below previous levels. Some things that make it seem less are:
1) No more 'me too' posts
2) No more duplicate responses
3) Posts are split into categories instead of a single 'stream'
4) No more 'outdated' responses
4 general user types have been identified over the many years of the CHUG.
1) Dedicate helper
This user is part of a devoted cadre who go out of their way to assist others. They respond to questions frequently. These are our second most prolific posters.
2) New User
These users are full of questions and post often. We have all been there, and if you recall, you probably thought there should be some 'reference' that new users can review to glean information. We hope the forums will provide that utility.
3) Casual User
This is typically a veteran EMR user who pops in periodically to ask a question and sometimes to answer some. They may or may not monitor the messages, based on desire and availability. Historically, these users do not post routinely to the CHUG.
4) Squirrel
You know who you are. Your .pst files are bursting with months of unread messages from the CHUG. One day while out scrounging, you find a loaded 'round tuit' and you blast the CHUG with outdated responses and raise the 'me too' bar to new heights.
Good news: You can save hard drive space by letting the forums store them nuggets for you!
Based on the above, we expect traffic to pick back up once a new EMR version/patch is released or new requirements are sent down (to lower the cost of healthcare by increasing the cost of overhead, of course) by Uncle Sugar. When that happens, the balance of type 3's and 4's will begin posting again. It has happened before, it will happen again. (What post is complete without a BSG reference?)

I like the forum. Been able to save my pst file size. Now I can stop sending myself those mailbox size is to large emails.

And that is what makes the forum great! Yes, you give up quantity of posts and ease of replying. But you gain quality of content and ease of navigation.

I don't know if it's just the way I have mine set up, but I think it's still easy to reply. I am using Goggle Chrome and I have my RSS feed tab as well at the CHUG log in tab. In the morning, I click on the log in tab and log in for the day. If there is a post that I want to reply to, then I just click on the "title bar" of that post and it takes me right to that topic.
I too thought with the SP2 upgrade and other important releases/items there would be more chatter. But, I am finding I have to call and email other practices and systems to get any info. I was really hoping the move to boards would make it more lively and engaged.
lkieth has the right idea. I have a shortcut on my desktop to the web site and log on in the morning. I leave it open but minimized. When I see an RSS feed in Outlook that I'm interested in, I click on the "View Article" link and it takes me right to it with no additional entry required. Some times I don't even need to do this if the text in the feed is what I'm looking for.
The downside to this is you have to close the article window when you're done or you'll end up with a bunch of open IE windows.
I have been monitoring the active users on the site and it appears that, after some time, you are set to inactive on the site. That cuts down on the activity so the site isn't oveloaded. The thing is, though, you're logon is still active within as long as you don't close the IE window.
I don't know if behaviour is the same using other browsers.
