We are currently on CPS 9.5.1.129 using AD security and will be upgrading to CPS 11 using application security. Will we have to reset user passwords when we use application security or will they be automatically converted?
Thank you.

I'm fairly certain you will have to reset passwords. Out of curiosity, why the switch?
Thanks for the quick reply. I was expecting the transistion would not be smooth.
Are you currently on CPS 11?
We are switching for various reasons.. First, we experience a high number of AD account lock outs for key providers. We generally go into reaction mode when that happens. We have the process down fairly well, yet it is very cumbersome. Second, we have very limited IT staff and budget of 2 people plus an our director given we are an FQHC. Along with having our day clinic, we have a late clinic during the week. Moving to using application security would allow us to broaden the support available when regular IT staff isn't available.
Thanks,
John
We're on the same release of CPS as you with AD level security in place. I understand your choice to change with IT infrastructure and needs--I would too.
I have CPS 11 in a test environment in preparation of upgrading to CPS 12 in Sept. If you're participating in the EHR Incentive program, I would suggest waiting for CPS 12 as it will be the MU Stage 2 compliant release (CSP 11 is only ICD-10, per GE). Unless you have other reasons to upgrade twice or do not participate in the EHR Incentive program.
Sam,
We received an e-mail from GE mentioning maintenance penalty if we don't upgrade by 7/1. Have you recieved a similar notification? What critieria do you to determine you upgrade schedule?
Does your test environment include all components (i.e. linklogic, secure messaging and eprescribing)? Is it virtualized or use actual server hardware?
Thanks.
John
Yes, we received the same letter. However GE exempted us from the penalty as long as we went ahead and "signed up" to upgrade to CPS 12 when it is released and added ourselves to their install queue. As far as criteria for upgrading, it depends on the next release's performance. We skipped CPS 10 due to it's problems and Centricity EDI's auto-upconverting of our claims to 5010. CPS 11 was our next planned upgrade until we were told it was only ICD-10 and that CPS 12 would be MU2 and released the same year. It was pretty obvious to use to not upgrade twice in a year when we could just wait.
I have a test DB/App server and another test DTS server. Both are virtualized with VMware. None of our third party software is installed.
Thanks,
Sam,
We are planning the CPS 11 upgrade in mid to late June. It should hopefully any issues have been resolved by then.
Good luck on your testing and installation of CPS 12.
John
