I was wondering if someone could share their process for the following....
A patient calls and they have an apt with the physician in a week. The patient calls because they would like to have their blood drawn before the visit so the results can be reviewed with the physican during their apt. What is the work flow for the clinical staff. Do they fill out the order for the test? Or does your physician? If the clinical staff start the order do they then put it on hold for the physician to sign?
Thanks for your help!
Lori
We have an order entry encounter (with a custom doc type = "order entry"):
1. Nurse enters order(s) with the physician as the authorizing provider
2. Nurse "signs" the order, then routes the document to the physician to sign within 24 hrs (nurses have the "additional signature required" privilege for the order entry doc type).
For us, this process allows the order to export to the modality required (PACS, etc) without having to wait for the physician to enter/sign the order. We do have a policy that states the physician must sign the order entry document within 24 hrs.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the response....
1. Do you have any medical assistants or LPN's doing the same process or just RNs?
2. Is this set up with co-signature?
Thanks
Lori
We have both LVN's & RN's. The document type for order entry has the co-sign privilege for the nurses.
In the encounter form:
1. The nurse first chooses the physician ordering the test as the provider of the encounter
2. The test(s) requested are checked off
3. The physician ordering the test is chosen (the chart translation reads as: v.o. Dr. XXXXXX / L. Marak RN (insert nurse name here)).
4. After the order is entered & signed, the document then gets routed to the physician to sign.
I would be happy to send you the form. 🙂
Thank you for all the information. Unfortunately most of our clinical staff are medical assistants.
