Is there a place that settings for the drug interaction checker live besides go-setup-preferences and settings? I have received the below email from support related to checking settings after an SP-11 upgrade (which we are doing tonight) and I can't figure out where this email is referring to....any help would be SO appreciated.
"I would suggest reviewing the Drug Interaction Minimum Thresholds under Administration > Charts > Chart > Drug Interaction Overrides Reason and comparing them to the preferences that the users have for Drug Interactions. If the User Preferences are set to higher levels than what the system has, you will get more of these overrides. This will happen even if no allergies or medications were added to the chart in the update. The system is going back and rechecking for interactions that meet the User Preference levels."
In EMR 9.8, at the user level you go to: Go > Setup > Preferences > Chart > Drug Interaction. At the system level you go to: Go > Setup > Settings > Chart > Drug Interaction.
The system settings are in the above location, the preferences are per user. I STRONGLY suggest looking at the ignore options and we were told to set individuals who do not actually add medications to the highest level under preferences. We upgraded over Thanksgiving weekend and spent most of this week fighting the drug interactions. ALL documents started were getting drug interaction warnings and most of the staff does not have permission to sign off on them. It is my understanding the interactions are reset and will have to be addressed again. Once we changed the preferences yesterday it has been much better.
Good Luck- this was our major hiccup, everything else seems to be working well.

Pre SP11, the user's preferences only controlled the user's view of interactions....the preferences did not force user interaction, only the system settings did. That changes with SP11. Now when a user signs clinical list changes the system looks at both the system settings and the user's preferences and applies the most stringent. Now users have to process interaction overrides so you'll want to make sure users have that privilege to perform overrides if it is appropriate for their role in the care team. You'll also was to make sure preferences are set at the appropriate level for your users. This is a major functionality change from previous versions
We are not going to upgrade tonight until GE can get a fix in place.
I received the following additional email which has helped with the popups tremendously.
To further reduce the override prompts the customer can also disable drug contraindications for drug-problem, drug-age, and drug-gender on the JBOSS JMX Console. The instructions are in the SP 11 Release Notes in the Use JBOSS JMX Console section under Disable or enable contraindications. The customer would need to set each one to False.
GE just posted an SP11 patch onto the support site a few moments ago.
Unclear if this allows you to go back to having no Overrides at all and not get any pop-ups at all or if it just addresses unwanted food/ethanol interactions.
Thanks for all the answers and the notification of the new patch. We had a heads up on the JBOSS changes and that seems to have helped quite a bit with the interaction overrides. We have also gone in to each users settings and modified them. There is still a TON of overrides happening, but no where near the amount we would have had.
Thanks again,
Stacey
