What do you do when prescribers report (after the fact) that they have e-scribed to the wrong pharmacy? Do you have a protocol for handling this situation, i.e., whose responsibility is it to contact wrong pharmacy and how is it documented in patient's chart?
On the pharmacy end, are scripts filled for out-of-state prescribers?
Thank you,
Follow your pervious workflow when you phoned-in prescriptions. Most contact the pharmacy by phone and then append the note where it was originally prescribed - make sure to document the phone call to cancel the prescription and do another e-prescription to the correct pharmacy. Who does this would vary by your internal prescribing protocol and state regulations.
Thank you, Paul. We are just beginning our e-scribing practice and it is so easy that our prescribers overlook the first highlighted pharmacy in the dropdown when they click "Select" .
Some feel the unlikelihood of wrong out-of-state pharmacies filling the script absolves them from reporting it. A new protocol is in order. Thanks again for your thoughts!
