We recently learned that Bounce Software will be sunsetted soon. Besides Visual Form Editor (VFE) from Logical Innovations and Clinical Forge, is any one aware of any forms development software that can be used with AthenaPractice?
Is anyone doing any HTML Forms Development for use with AthenaPractice and if so, what forms development software are you using? How is development coming in this for you? I have heard that HTML forms development is problematic at best with products like VFE, so any information on what you are using and how it is going will be much appreciated.
I build custom form applications that work with athenaPractice. It is not a software to build but I customize embedded applications into athenaPractice and Centricity.
Up front disclaimer: Answering from the perspective of a consultant.
We have both VFE and ClinicalForge and develop/maintain Legacy MEL forms in both.
We develop HTML content using ClinicalForge and it has been a great way for our developers who have been programming in MEL for many years to begin learning a new skillset in HTML/Javascript. We've been very pleased with Phil's support, knowledge, and willingness to add features/explain features, etc. as we learn HTML programming for Centricity.
With Bounce sunsetting, your two options are likely going to be ClinicalForge or traditional web/app development suites. Between those two, I think the decision would come down to level of knowledge/expertise
If you are new to development, especially HTML/Javascript/Webapps I thinik ClinicalForge is a great way to begin. You have a drag and drop interface and a lot of the heavy lifting is done for you, but you can still get creative and push some boundaries/limits. There will be some limitations, but not as many as you may think.
If you are already a web/app developer, then you will get the most control and flexibility with manual development - but you'd either have a steep learning curve, or know what you're doing.
Now's a great time to start moving to HTML content - the API v2 that's part of V20 fills a bunch of holes that were not deal breakers before, but were challenges.
Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

HTML forms are the way to go as they look and work so better. We use a solution called Clinical Forge and it works great! I have made several forms and am in the process of replacing all of our forms with HTML.
Clinical Forge is easy enough for beginners to use and also includes more advanced features/coding as well.
Clinical Forge is awesome for building both HTML and MEL forms.
Set up is easy and the builder tool is easy to use to create gorgeous forms.
It has in line signature and save to PDF options that automatically attach to the document in the chart.
It's a great tool and I highly recommend it.
Form import is easy, but especially the update is super amazingly easy!
There is a demo video on the clinicalforge.com website. Check it out.

For the last 8 months I have been using Clinical Forge HTML forms for use with AthenaPractice. Prior to HTML forms, I used VFE for many years. Developing forms using Clinical Forge is far more advanced in many features compared to VFE. I pretty much now develop all custom forms using Clinical Forge and the providers and staff love it.
The app is user friendly with advanced features (example: used the pdf file, drawing tool and signature features to develop Botox form)
Clinical Forger provides great customer support and remarkable custom training classes. Overall, I am happy with the product and how it works well with AthenaPractice.
Good morning,
I've been working with Phil from Clinical Forge for about 2 years now and we absolutely love HTML forms. They are easy to create (I have very little coding knowledge and what I do know Phil has taught me). The program is intuitive. He has an entire table built to research tags and how to code things and is really quick to respond when I do need help.
They are so customizable. I can create a tool for our providers that is simple, has very few clicks, and looks clean and up to date. I personally think the VFE and CCC forms seem a little outdated and I can't even imagine trying to update the CCC forms. I went to a class to do it and still felt uncomfortable with the risk it had on the system.
When you update an HTML form it only affects the form itself. Updating them in the system is SO easy. You just drag and drop an index file from one folder to another and you only need to import the CKT form once.
I have a long term goal to convert all of our forms to HTML at some point. We are working on it one form at a time but about 75% of our office visit is based on HTML forms built from Clinical Forge.
What else is there to say?? I mean in summary:
- Intuitive
- Easy to learn
- Clean and customizable forms
- TREMENDOUS support (Phil is a really awesome person too)
- Happy providers!!!! <<< Key
- Room for change/growth
Try open source mdObject (from https://www.npmjs.com/package/@mdobject/mdobject).
There are several examples of HTML forms and there are a few videos on the mdobject.com site.
There is a new development to support non-ie browsers for V20.
The mdObject licensed under MS-PL.
