I would be very interested in the CHUG reaction to today's State of the Union concerning unsigned clinical list changes. This has been a major problem in my group with inability to sign charts, disappearing obs terms. Comments?
I think the bigger problem is that this has been a problem for years, and just made worse with SP11. Why has this not been addressed before now? And why are they only reverting back to a previous state and not actually FIXING the problem?
For those who missed the conference call today (copied from one of the slides)...
Product Information Notice
When signing documents, some clinical list items might remain unsigned. The unsigned clinical list changes related to the impacted patient chart are in the database and are not visible.
Impacted Clinical List Items can include: problems, medications, prescriptions, immunization, in-office medication administration, allergies, advanced directives, care plans, observations terms, and orders.
* Analysis to-date shows that customer impact is variable
* CPS 12 and EMR 9.8 SP11 and SP12 customers might be experiencing a higher frequency
* PM only customers are not impacted

Wow. Touch every client for something that has been going on for years. Couldn't it be any easier and less time consuming. What does everyone out there think they are going to do?
That's what to me is ridiculous. Why is this not being addressed as something they're wanting to fix instead of just reduce the number of times it happens? I was hoping for an sp12 date because bringing the facility offline twice in the span of a couple of weeks isn't exactly popular around here.
I totally agree. Why not wrap it with SP12 ? They seem to be inconsistent with the frequency at which they are producing the Service Packs again and producing what is promised based on the time lines they have previously provided. We usually have to do these types of updates on the weekend when there is no one scheduled to work. Not efficient.
I'm not sure why this was titled a State of the Union . I was hoping to hear something more about the future of this product, something about the direction we're headed, insight on product development that gets this product out of the past an onto newer technolgies. I was tasked by our organization to listen and report back to the administration team about where CPS is headed. They are evaluating new EHR products. I would really love to stay with CPS because of the EHR's flexibility, but how do I go back to the CEO, CFO, and all the other Os with this message. "GE's future includes a bandaid on an existing wound and they mentioned stability and speed in passing". We've just had product demos with two other EHR vendors. Their products are sleek, modern, integrated, up with tons of new web-based technologies, with tons of patient engagement, quick charting methods that get the provider out from behind the computer monitor, analytics and bells and wistles that make adminstrators smile...I'm going to have a really hard time arguing that we stay with CPS. Any thoughts?
I think we're in the same boat as you. We've been using the PM side for about 7 years, recently switched to EMR/PM a little over a year ago, and our MD is already wanting to make the change away from GE. Quick charting, modern looking applications, and mobile app's are the way of the future and GE doesn't seem to be working towards that at all.
Right? Wrap it up with SP12 save us all the trouble. We're the same as you. Our only day to really bring the system down is on Sunday since we're open 6 days a week, and our slow moving providers like to use Sunday's to catch up.
State of the Union was supposed to be today but earlier today they decided to reschedule it and use the time to make us all aware of the problem they discussed. They said the SOU will likely be next week sometime.
They will be working on a fix, but that will take longer. They want to prevent it from happening as much as it has been happening since SP11. To me, knowing I can catch them that night with the script and repair tool may or may not be enough since there are some days I have to clear 3-5 masterlocks. That is office time. On the other hand the amount of time and manpower to do client upgrades is nothing to overlook. My bigger concern is that I opened a ticket on this right after our SP11 upgrade and have had 1 e-mail communication where GE has gotten back to me on it. I am concerned to find out it goes beyond a "masterlock" error, which by the way, we also had an increase in those when we went up on 9.2 but they cleared with 9.3 to only having 1 every 6 months or so. We upgraded in December so is it really "recently" discovered or is it just recently finally listed to and addressed?
Our group has had these issues for a while. Our master lock count continues to grow. We stayed away from CEMR 10 and 11 until they were stable and now we are very concerned about what we may not be seeing because of this issue. Are there other issues we do not know about it? I spoke with my CEO and he expressed many concerns. I have a feeling this may be a big change maker for a lot of people.
This is an excellent thread for GE to review - I'm adding to it in case they choose based on number of comments. I think we all want the best for our product.
I have a sneaking suspicion they only decided to change the state of the union to a formal announcement and review of this issue because it came up on the customer collaboration call the day before. They clearly have known about this issue in SP11 for a while, why wait until the 11th hour and commandeer the SOU? Maybe because the cat got out the bag in front of 20+ large customers the afternoon beforehand...
GE has made me resort to conspiracy theories!
What is everyone communicating to your providers?
