We just received a call from our GE Account Executive saying that MIPPs will probably require us to upgrade to cEMR 9.12 and since we're on CPS 11, we'll have to upgrade to 12.3 since 11 won't be supported after January. Has anyone else gotten calls like this? I can understand the CPS since 11 is starting to get older but cEMR 9.12 hasn't even come out yet and they say it won't be released until July?
I haven't heard anything about GE not supporting older versions of Centricity. We are currently running CEMR 9.8.10 in production and upgrading our test environment to 9.10.2 (still sp2 LA release) later this week. The jump from 9.8 to 9.10 requires an upgraded server OS (2012R2) and Citrix 7.5 or above. It wouldn't be a big deal, but 9.8 isn't supported on those platforms so we have to test everything "big bang." The GE guy actually chuckled in agreement when I told him how much that sucks.
I would be amazed if 9.12 is actually ready for release in July. We don't even know if it will be approved by ONC to 2015 Standards and nobody at GE can tell me how they plan to tackle the patient generated health data measure (is it native, another third-party, upgrade to portal?).
We made the decision to start testing 9.10 with the new infrastructure now rather than wait until the 11th hour with 9.12 (probably released in December, let's be real). That would have created immense headaches as we tried to rush a version into production for regulatory purposes while also vetting the new OS and Citrix environment.
Thank you for the response. Have you upgraded your hardware at all for 9.10? I've got it running in our test environment but we haven't had anyone train on it. I'm sure we'll have issues on the upgrade but has any of the workflows changed significantly for it? I'm worried that staff will have to change how they do things in the system on top of the technical issues we'll probably run into.
We have been informed that 9.12 is required prior to January 1, 2018 for CQR. This version allows is certified for both 2017 and 2018. We were also told it would be out this June but I would be in shock if that happened.

Is anyone else having deja vu? This is exactly what happened with CPS 12 in 2014, isn't it? Except this time it's even later in the year...they had CPS12 approved by CLIVE in 2014 if memory serves. Despite this, there was a major log jam to get assistance upgrading that fall. Maybe the upgrade process won't be so painful this time (if you're on CPS12 at least ...if you're on CPS11 then I would agree with a plan to go to CPS12.0 or EMR 9.10 first and then quickly upgrade when the ONC certified version is available while you still have your upgrade mojo about you).
