An issue that seems to grow over time are the number of pharmacies linked to each patient. Especially for long-time patients, there are many one-time pharmacies used because of vacation (and other reasons).
As we move to EMR 9.12, and review the processing of prescription refills, this matter is becoming a larger issue for us.
So, does anyone have a process to review pharmacies with patients? For example, does check-in provide a list of current meds and current pharmacies? Does the Medical Assistant review a list with each patient? And, if pharmacies are ok to be removed, who actually does the removal from the patient record (likely in the Registration screen)?
Thanks.
Joe
Our MAs go over medications with the patients and at that time review the patient's pharmacy list. They try to do it in a phone call a day or 2 before the patient's appt but more often it's done when the patient is in the exam room. If there any pharmacies that need taken off the contact list, the MA will send a flag to one of the administrators who will eventually (but on the same day) remove it. There are only a few people who have access to the Registration module. It would be great if it was as easy to remove a pharmacy as it is to add one.
Thanks for that feedback.
How do the MA's see the information on pharmacies? Obviously, they are visible in Registration. However, I have never found MEL coding to program and display them all easily in a VFE screen, a MEL-programmed handout, etc... I know how to do with a Crystal Report, but that would seem to require running a report each time (or once each morning).
Thanks for your comments.

Sorry, Joe. the MAs do have read-only access to Reg and that is how they review the pharmacy list. The MAs cannot make any changes though and so they flag the admin. I don't know of a way to list all the pharmacies a patient might have in the contact list.
Hi Joe, our office prints out a patient intake sheet that contains info. from patient registration including default pharmacy. Patient reviews sheet at check in and when pt is brought back by the MA, if any changes then MA or front office can make changes inside patient registration.
