Well, here we are, we've crossed the great divide from ICD-9 to ICD-10. How did you fare? Are you still alive? Still employed? 🙂
While probably still too early to speak for the full scope (money in our pockets from all payers), how did your Technical and Personnel transition go?
Did your practice do anything special to prepare? New content, interesting workflows, etc.? I'd like to hear your stories. 🙂
We are very pleased with our transition, providers and staff handled the day as if it were any other. The bulk of our efforts went into a custom Add Problems form for our office as well as custom educational material for our providers--laminated sheets with common diagnoses and new ICD books at all offices and MD work areas.
Our transition was quite smooth as well, and we did not have nearly the amount of trouble we were expecting come the dreaded 10/1/2015 deadline.
We had some standard training for providers, with cheat sheets at every workspace. we also had a few sessions where an outside firm came in to show solid examples of how the codes were changing. The providers learned what basic ICD9 codes would turn into 2-4 ICD10 codes, as well as some scenarios where 3-4 ICD9 codes had been grouped into a single 10 code! This really helped to calm the panic of switching to a more complex system.
We also had several sessions with Billing/Providers/IT to make sure our custom forms had correct 10 codes prior to October. We use enough custom forms, that it would have been terrible had we not grouped the 3 departments together in a room for 8 hours. Thankfully everything seems to be working correctly.
Hope everyone else had a nice time switching, and that we can keep improving as the year comes to a close.
Yay! Great to hear dcarpenter. We followed a similar mantra of monthly (then weekly) meetings starting in June with IT, Billing and Administration staff.
Hi,
I hope you all are doing good. Since we all are busy with ICD-10 conversion so I thought of sharing a resource with you all, it is an ICD-9 to ICD-10 Converter
This tool works well for me and it is free. I hope it could be of a help!
Thanks,
Erika
Not a bad link. We use the following website for our conversions as well as any other references to ICD-10 information: www.icd10data.com
It's not fancy, but works and works well.
