Does anyone know if Centricity has the capability to use an insurance card reader with OCR that would populate the insurance information into registration automatically.
subscribed for the answer and keeping my fingers crossed
Innuvio has a product called ScanOCR.
It was pretty fancy. It would take the drivers license and insurance card, pull the information off of it (Including the DL photo) and plug it into the fields in Centricity.
The only short coming of the product was the amount of training the application needed to automatically capture the information. When a new type of ID is scanned you are prompted to "teach" the software what fields go where. It wasn't difficult, just tedious.
This extra-step was just a tad too to handle much during a busy clinic. A majority of the time, the staff would skip this step, data enter the information, and move on. So the program would never learn this ID and the user would encounter the same process on the next patient.
We ended up disabling this feature, but I feel it would work great in a slower environment. It's definitely worth checking out.
