Hello,
We are using Kryptiq for our patient portal and are looking into the Add From Chart function.
Is anyone else using this function? How do you have it implemented into your workflow?
Do you add the patient’s to the portal while they are in your office or do it you register over the phone? Both?
Most specifically- How are you obtaining the Terms of Use Agreement if you are adding the patients over the phone?
Thank you so much for any information!

Sarah,
We have been using the Add from Chart feature for some time and love it! The process has increased efficiency as well as traffic to our portal.
We register patients over the phone and at that time they are asked 2 questions:
1. If they are interested in receiving a summary of their visit electronically
2. If they are interested in obtaining online access to their chart information
We do not document consent, but rather document declination using obs terms.
If patient gives consent, we use the add from chart functionality to register the patient for the portal and give them the temporary password over the phone. The patient is also sent a custom message with links to the forms to be completed before their appointment.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

The Add from Chart is the best registration solution to date for the GE patient Portal. You need to understand what this process does and doesn't do for you though. Here's my break down of the pro's and con's:
Pro's:
- Removes the need for patient verification
- Reduces phone calls typically found when using the PIN
- Can be done from within the EMR using Setup Links
- Using the Front Desk Role, it allows you to give restricted access for portal registration
Con's
- Does not have a process to send out a Welcome Letter to patients
- Does not have a process to update patient banner
- Gives out a temporary password that can sometimes be difficult to work with
MD EMR Systems has created a 1 button registration that does everything from within the chart. Creates the account, links them to a chart, sends a welcome letter, updates the patient banner and changes the password to a format that is easier for the user.

Danny,
As a current Add from chart user, I feel I must poke several holes in your Con's list:
1. A welcome letter is sent to the patient when the Add from Chart feature is used. The letter is sent in an email format and is editable. In the next portal release(of which I am part of the LA group who is testing), a letter is also able to be printed.
2. The patient banner can be updated to show that portal access has been given. There are several ways to do this.
3. The temporary password generation has been changed so that it is no longer confusing - i.e. no more I or L or 0 or O, etc....
All in all, we are VERY happy with the process.
