I am hoping that this is something that I can fix.
Here is the scenario:
Labs are ordered today 11/28/12. When the labs are resulted and pushed back into the EMR the obs terms and results, i.e.-HGB, HCT etc. say 11/29/12 on the flowsheet rather than the order date of 11/28/12? Shouldn't it be the order date not the return date populating the flowsheet?
It's confusing our providers and making our charts a mess!
Any thoughts on the reason this is happening or if there is anything I can do to fix the problem would be great!
No, In actuality (even prior to EHR) all labs would be (and should be) on the date of the lab draw.
Otherwise labs ordered in advance would all have the order date and wouldn't be reflective of when the labs actually are drawn (ie my A1c is not the same result today as it was three months ago). The same would be applicable for labs that are drawn a day after the order. That is why in the hospital labs tend to be drawn daily as the results tend to change by the day.

Right, I agree.
However, the labs are pushing the day to the flowsheet that the test was resulted. One day after the patient was drawn. Sometimes it's even two days after the patient has been drawn.
Is this happening to you? How can I get the result on the flowsheet to be the actual draw date?
In that case...
I would check with the lab and their formatting along with your lab interface. Sound more like how the lab itself is sending out the HL7 and the position of the date on their end. Another thing to check is, if you have access to the lab results on their end, find out if they have the correct date there as well.
You are exactly right. Our lab interface team was able to identify that it was a date setting in the OBX.14.
Fixed!
And labs are now coming in and showing in the flowsheet as they are supposed to.
Thank you for your replies.
