I was in the dark about this until my vendor called me to RMA the Software Assurance (SA) licenses they just sold me on my new desktop computers. They said they just found out they were not supposed to sell me SA on a new computer without first purchasing a Windows Enterprise upgrade license. This change apparently went into effect earlier this year.
I thought I would share this as it may affect your computer budgeting if you require Windows 7/8.1 Enterprise licensing or SA on your Windows desktops.
So the new way allows you to buy just an upgrade license (vs carrying SA on each computer) or buy an Enterprise upgrade license with SA.
Here is an article that sums it up.
