Hi Everybody!
Quick Question. What laptops and/or tablets do your MA/Nursing staff use to document in the EMR? preferably ones that they are happy with. if you want more details as to why I am asking, read on, or just stop here if you don't want a wall of text
I work at a CHC that is running CPS 12.11 on a Citrix Environment. Every MA, Nurse and Provider has a laptop that goes with them from room to room, and even to our other clinic.
Here's the rub though: our Nurses and MAs are using old, heavy laptops that are cumbersome to carry, and do not have a good battery life. My question is, what are some suggestions for new laptops and/or tablets?
We are also about to implement Visual Signature Capture, so I was considering 2-in-1 convertibles so the MAs do not have to manage 2 different sets of hardware when a consent form or PHQ-9 needs to be done electronically.
So, what laptops/tablets work well for:
Citrix environment
Touchscreen or Tablet preferred
Light and easy to carry.
THANK YOU!!!!!
some of our MA's and athletic trainers use a Lenovo X220 tablet . Most of our providers use a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 with a docking station and bluetooth mouse/keyboad. They pull up imaging and EMR prior to going into the room. That combination seems to work very well for us.
We use Lenovo T series laptops and have steered clear from touch screens. CPS is still a very mouse and keyboard app. We used them in the past but it actually only slowed staff down. But with that being said if you are using the touch for a different app that makes sense.
The thing we like most about the laptops is the warranty. We buy 3 year full accidental and use it quite often as MA's and Doctors are quite hard on them. Drops, Spills, You name it. So far no questions asked.
We also use Lenovo T series laptops (Minimum Intel i5 for MAs, Intel i7 for MDs + Solid State Drives + 8 GB min RAM). Prior to that, we used Panasonic Toughbooks. They were great, lightweight, multiple batteries, durable, etc. When they were due for replacement (scheduled replacement plan--they were not broken), we went back and forth between them and the Lenovos. We chose the Lenovos because of price. Thankfully we always get full warranties... we send laptops out regularly for repairs that the Toughbooks never needed. Next time we'll push for Toughbooks.
Lenovo Helix 800 series tablets with detachable keyboards.
Fujitsu tablets have always been very reliable with great service when needed. They also have many accessory options. (charging stations, extra batteries, etc)
Lenovo tablets have been good. They come in at a lower price point than the Fujitsu tablets.
Convertible tablets are definitely more common these days due to their light weight, universal usage (either slate based or with the keyboard). Standardizing on one is much easier with common chargers and batteries. This can be a challenge when not everyone agrees on a platform or there is a short transition period.
I would be happy to talk through this with you.
