I noticed the other day all my lab orders are built with the classification of "other" vs. "lab". Should I be concerned or is this a null issue? Does the classification of Laboratory, Radiology, Other drive any functionality?

I just came across this today myself. If I had to guess, I would say that the classification is used for the purpose of accommodating the Meaningful Use 2 Objective for CPOE, specifically for lab and radiology orders (see link below for the specifics). Without differentiating the order classification, there is no way to discern whether the order was radiology, lab, or something else. That said, I would probably correct the classification of the order in your system.

The classification determines the denominator for the CPOE Lab and Radiology measures.
