One of our providers asked if there is any way to prevent so many preliminary reports from being sent out. For example: When a Testosterone and a PSA are ordered and collected at the same time, a (P) preliminary reports comes into the patient EMR in CPS as well as to the provider desktop. Providers receiving these (P) reports must then hold them until the final is received. In some cases, the preliminary report is over-laid with the final report so the preliminary is no longer in the chart or on the provider desktop. In the case of PSA and testosterone however, the Testosterone comes across to the chart and provider desktop as a specific report number and states that not all results are available. When the PSA finals, the final testosterone is added to the final PSA report (with a different test report number) preventing the final testosterone report from overlaying the (P) preliminary report so the (P) preliminary reports remains on the provider desktop and in the patient chart.
Is it possible to send the Final reports only when a lab is going to be added to another final report, leaving the (P) preliminary report hanging around until someone has time to manually find and remove or sign/file in error them?
We interface with LabCorp and they can hold all results until the order is finalized, except for STAT's and microbiology. So, if this is something you might want to do I would recommend contacting the lab(s) with whom you have the interfaces. Hope this helps.
We use a product called EMR Link from Liaision. We only receive the final report. I can provide you a contact person if you would like.
Thank you so much! I would love to have contact information.

We have a total of 4 different lab interfaces and we have requested all of the senders to only send us Final results, and all of them have been able to comply.
A couple of the labs actually are broken into different subsection labs where certain subsections only perform certain types of testing. So if we order 4 different lab tests, they may go to different subsections, and when a subsection completes a lab test it posts it to their system as Final and we get a copy of the report, then when another subsection completes a lab test it posts it to their system as Final, we get a copy of the original report with the new results added to it. All of our Lab Result interfaces are set to overlay, but we do have an issues often of the documents allowing overlay if they have been signed (doesn't happen all of the time), so we have asked our providers to wait until all results have come in for all lab tests they ordered. Most of our providers are pretty good at doing this most of the time.
Thank you so much for your time and explanation. I really appreciate it!
Thank you,
