I am having an issue with the recalls measure for Meaningful Use. Ive been working with my office Manager and nurses and we can't figure out how to generate recalls for return colons and EGDs and make them count for MU. We would normally print them out using the PM side and send them via mail. I herd a rumor that with the proposed rule change, the reclls measure may go away. Is there any truth to this? Or should i continue wracking my brain on how to do this?
Any help would be appreciated..
I have also heard that recalls will go away if NPRM is passed. I heard that from 2 very reliable sources, one being GE's governmental guru Mark Segal.

We are meeting this measure. In EMR, you need to generate a list in Chart Reports (for example, by diagnosis and date of last office visit) and select "Send Reminder." Then, you can select an appropriate letter template that you have stored in your "Actionable Reminders" folder.
The patient has to have "letter" as the preferred method of contact in their registration as well.
But as TCross said reminders are gone when (if) the proposed changes go into effect - since reminders just need to be sent during the reporting period it is safe to hold off on this one.
It seems our organization is going forward with this measure regardless. I have been able to use the chart report/inquiry mode for finding Colonoscopies that are due But we are still working on the EGD's. The problem I'm finding is that we don't have a "form or template" that includes EGD obs terms. We use a form (might have been developed from an outside source that we use) that populates COLONNXTDUE. When someone has a colonoscopy we use this form to update the flowsheet with results and when the next colonoscopy is due. Then we use the chart report module to inquiry patients that are due. Making sure that the patients preferred method is selected to letter and print the letters. I was finally able to do the first set this week because we didn't have the letters set up in the "actionable folder" until this week. Interested to see what our numbers will do next time we run them.
