Currently we set up a separate chart for patients with work comp & private insurance which (obviously) can be an issue of patient safety, not to mention a headache for everyone trying to figure out which acct to use and if we set up the appt with the wrong acct it's a huge effort to try and move/re-do documentation so that it's in the correct acct.
I would like to get our office to create a single chart and utilize case management to distinguish which billing option the patient is being seen on; however, I'm curious as to how other clinics notify the provider(s) if the patient needs to be seen that day for their work comp account, so they know to treat for the compensible injury that visit?
Does anyone have a workflow or examples they can share with me? I've thought about setting up separate appointment types and/or encounter types which will make it noticeable to the provider what they are seeing the patient for that day; any thoughts on that idea?
we have one chart and are utilizing case management, and are thinking about changing to separate charts.... the billing side of things are working as they should.... but the charts become a mess for any doc to dig through when there's multiple claims and visits. and sifting through authorizations is a headache.
