One of our new MIPS measures for 2018 is #111 Pneumococcal Vaccination Status for Older Adults. Frequently when asking the patient about their status, they are unsure of what TYPE of pneumococcal vaccine they received (Pneumovax vs. Prevnar). We would like to be able to document that they received a pneumococcal vaccine, but not be forced to pick a specific type on the Immunization Management Form. Is there a way to add a more general pneumococcal vaccine group or type?
Currently when the patient doesn’t know which type they received, we are documenting this under Pneumovax (PPSV23) and picking unspecified formulation, but we are not comfortable with this documentation.
How about using the PneumoPCV group, and selecting the unspecified formulation option there. At lease you would know they had some kind of Pneumo Vaccine, and it wouldn't be listed at Pneumococcal PPSV23 unspecified formulation which is not easily seen on the Immunization Management form.
