Hello,
I am looking at possibly moving some of our providers over to Clinically Speaking and a Power Mic II. We use thin clients almost exclusively and do not want to add any more PCs to the mix. I have been looking for thin clients that have built in hard drives to store drivers for the Power Mics. Looking at either WES7 or WES8, more or less WES8 for future-proofing as we just got rid of our XP embedded thin clients a few months ago. Any thoughts on if the Power Mic is compatible with WES7 or 8?
I can't get an answer out of Nuance, their customer support is terrible and they won't talk to me without having an account. Clinically Speaking refuses to give any sort of recommendation and the recommendation I did get was to a link with 4 different types of Wyse units on the page, less than helpful.
Hi Scott
I was anxious to read this post out of curiosity because I have tried multiple iterations of thin clients and Dragon and have been unsuccessful in the past few years. I believe what Clinically Speaking recommends is their cloud offering which I have not used. That would be the way to go so you don't have to do an entire Dragon install locally.
This technology looks really good on paper but I have yet to see a successful implementation. Someday I would love to move forward with thin technology but only if I can really MOVE to it, not keep fat clients around for a support nightmare. I know it is possible as I keep hearing about it (with some limitations) and am anxious to talk to someone who has done it

We have been testing the cloud version on WYSE C10LE. We use 2008 R2 terminal servers via RDP not Citrix.
The only major issue we have is that the windows audio service "AudioSrv" sometimes crashes when logging into Clinically Speaking. We have tried a number of suggested MS hotfixes and multiple terminal servers but nothing has worked yet. We extended the auto timeout setting and created a shortcut that stops and starts the service so the providers testing can still use it. Most of the time this is enough of an inconvenience to stop them from using it. While its working it works great.
They also have mixed success using it remotely from fat clients at home.
Brian,
you were able to run it off the Wyse Thin OS? Is the RDP that is giving you the issue or the 2008 R2? We are also using 2008 R2.
Thin OS is performing the basic USB redirection and rdp connection only. The issue seems to be with 2008 R2. Unless the USB redirection has limitations causing the audio service to hang? The issue is intermittent so testing is frustrating.
are there drivers installed locally on the thin client? or is the USB redirect handling all of that as well?
There are no drivers directly on the thin client. I believe redirection is the only option for our hardware. I'm not aware of any version of Thin OS that allows drivers to be installed directly.
What is the bandwidth between the thin client and the server? IIRC, I believe it needs to be 100mbit minimum to work. That was sort of a show stopper for me as I wanted to do this to support home users and a remote site with lower bandwidth. This may be a requirement for Dragon, not USB redirection in general.
