Anyone using remoteapp (not remote desktop) with iPads?
Remote apps is not fully supported in anything but microsoft.
You can get the basic functionality going on non windows mobiles devices but as now they dont work as a desktop windows device.
For a cps or emr on mobility. Best option is citrix xenapp server and citrix reciever on the client end
Actually, we have had Citrix for a number of years. It does support remote access in a variety of devices and works pretty well.
We have recently begun a migration to VMWare View to replace Citrix. It seems to be more robust in features, easier to setup/maintenance and performs better. It does not have an app for the iPhone yet but we are using it for iPads in the treatmnet rooms and EMR works great.
It also provides USB redirection to a windows client which allows us to use our Welch-Allyn Vitals Monitors through it.
We trialed out a Mac client for RDP called iTap. It worked very well and has good security configurability. Ours was preliminary, though, and I have not seen it rolled out for the enterprise yet.
For full remote access to an existing desktop or server (as opposed to just EMR/CPS), we have been using LogMeIn. There is a free version of the client that allows basic functions to be performed. If you want to do advanced tasks such as file transfers, etc there is a PRO version which is not free.
For access, there is a free app for Droids, iPhones and iPads and, with Windows, you can access it with a browser. They also sell a nice product called Ignition which enhances the access capabilities.
If you have a lot of workstations/servers to manage, you can buy LogMeIn Central which provides some organization and control features.

RDP is everything but secure, we had RDP before in the past but had to shoot it down because of so many security hole on the TS servers

We have not found VDI to cause an issue with performance. Our primary utilization is over our internal wireless rather than true mobile access but we have not experieced issues outside of the offices either.
