We are looking for a way to easily denote/recognize in the chart when a patient is participating in a research study. How are other CEMR customers documenting research participation in CEMR?
I have had several clients use the directives section to note they are on a research study. I have also had clients request an obsterm from GE for tracking patients and running reports. Depending on workflows, history views is a great way too!
If you have questions, feel free to email me.

We are entering RESEARCHI and RESEARCHR in the MRN number as we don't use that space and then I put the OBS term for MRN in the Patient Banner so that everyone can see if the patient is a research patient. We were putting a pop up Alert but clinics that share these patients didn't want the pop up Alert when they saw the patient. I would like to know the OBS term that GE has designated for these patients.
Thank you.

We have a lot of different research studies at our center, so we request a specific observation term from GE for each unique study. We have an encounter form that allows staff to update this observation term to indicate a patient's status in each study: Active; Inactive; Discussed; Declined. We also use pop-ups if a patient is in a study, but we only use these with a handful of studies, because no one likes pop-ups.
I would use an OBS Term and then modify your banner to read from that obs term to display if the patient is in the study or not and which study if needed.
