We recently (last weekend) upgraded to 9.12 from 9.8 and even though we tested the 'new' prescription form, we keep getting surprises. The MAs are responsible for refills but we are finding that refill documents are showing up on the physicians desktops even though the MA is changing the document provider to her/his name.
The MA selects the chart from the Rx Renewals tab
Completes the refill authorization
Clicks the Sign Rx Now button – at this point the unsigned document shows up on the physicians desktop
The MA closes the update and changes the provider to her/himself
The MA signs the update.
There is no reason for the refill to show up on the providers desktop unless it is intentionally sent. Having the document route to the provider before it’s complete is confusing, inefficient and inconsistent. The MAs have the extra task of removing it from the doctors desktop and there is a chance that the document would be signed by the provider before the MA is completely finished with it. There is also a chance that a refill intentionally sent to the provider will get signed or removed because it’s among a dozen refills that do not need the providers attention.
I haven’t test this yet but would a work around be to have the MA NOT click the Sign Rx Now button? I think that then the document would not go to the providers desktop because the refill would not be signed until the MA changes the document provider and signs the document. Does anyone else have a wrkflow like ours and if so, do you have a soluton?
We have them sign rx, end the update, remove the provider it's routed to, and sign.
Joni, were you able to make any changes to keep that from happening?
