Is anyone seeing good results with specific hardware/software used for either: (1) scanning insurance cards; (2) taking patient photographs? We have tried several different options, and before going further, we were hoping that someone out there has discovered a combination that both: (1) has a smooth workflow; (2) doesn't cause CPS to randomly crash.
We have talked to CPS Support in the past, and the response has usually been something along the lines of "yep...must be that scanner...".
We are on CPS 12.0.11.
We use Fujitsu Fi-60f scanners and Logitech orbit/sphere cameras. Haven't ever had issues with them, we use them on thick clients.
We don't do pictures (we're not sure the patients up here would approve) but we do scan cards. We do not scan directly into CPS since we don't use fat clients but to a shared directory on the network which is then attached via Kryptiq. We are on 12.0.10 and this process at least doesn't cause crashing.

We have struggled for years with cameras and have never been successful so it is nice to hear the functionality is working for someone. We will definitely look at those cameras. One question from our IT consultant:
Have you done anything to reduce the resolution of the images captured? We are concerned about database size.
Thank you in advance.
Amanda Koenig
They are just web cams on a stick, have a max resolution of 2mp, and CPS modifies the resolution to 640x480 or 0.3mp so they don't take up a lot of space.
I took a test image and it came out to 0.878906MB. I think you will be ok.
Well I can tell what isn't working for us. The scanners crash CPS and the cameras will just not capture anything sometimes. Scanner: Visoneer RoadWarrior4D (the Furry Road edition) and Camera: Logitech HD Webcam c310. We get so many calls to our help desk it might be more cost effective to hire a police sketch artist to do both the documents and the patient photos. Or maybe one of those guys that draws cartoony people on skateboards and such.
We've been using the Scanshell® 800NR for years. We scan insurance cards and photo IDs with it. The staff crops the photo ID down to just the picture, then attaches it to the chart. Works well for us.
