Just wanted to know if anyone had any information on terminal servers or citrix; both pros and cons. We are a community health center with 4 clinics in rural areas. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
I cannot speak to cirtix, but we use Microsoft terminal Services for all of our users to access CPS 11 (soon to be 12). The worst thing we have come across is some issues with HP printers, other than that it has worked very well for us.
we have 1 main site and 6 remote site all in rural areas. just make sure the connection between sites has enough bandwidth to cope with the amount of traffic needed.
if you have any specific questions please let me know.
I am using Terminal Services as well and have not had any real issues. We are running CPS 12 - hosting up 10 users who are also running MicroMD PM and a couple of other lightweight apps all from the same TS.
The terminal server is a Dual 6 core xeon with 32gigs of ram. We don't see CPU usage above 10 percent and right now with all 10 users in I am using 6.5 gigs of ram.
If money is no object, go for Citrix. The ICA protocol is more efficient over slower, high latency connections. We are using Terminal Services and we have some strange display anomalies (seems like redraw issues) here and there although it has gotten better over time.
