I have a horrible understanding of Un-Coded medications. We have a lot of un-coded medications and I am trying to figure out how to get them out of the system. We also have a lot of un-coded medications on the custom lists which I had removed at one time and now they are back. Anyone have any information on what could be our problem or info so I can get a better understanding of the un-coded medications. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.
One thing you could do is take away permission regarding the custom lists.
In security take away access for users to add items to the custom lists. This is under the permissions for Chart then the specific permission to "add to problem/medication/orders/allergy custom lists. This will prevent users from randomly adding items to the custom list when they shouldn't be.
I am looking around for other ideas but this is what I have so far.
Have you you looked at the out of the box report?
A full or incremental Knowledge Base (KB) update is released each month to provide up to-date Medication and Formulary data.
From time to time, medication codes become obsolete—for example, when a drug is removed from the market or the formulation changes. After you install this update, review your medication custom lists and protocols.
Review medication custom lists:
1 Review the med_chngs_current.txt and med_chngs_prior.txt files included in the KB update folder for medication codes that are now obsolete.
2 From the main menu, click Charts then Reports. Select the Reports tab. In the MedicaLogic folder, select and print the Uncoded Medication Custom List Entries Report.
3 Go to Administration and select Chart > Medication Custom Lists.
4 For each list that contains an obsolete medication, locate the medication and replace it with an active medication from the MediSpan list, or look-up via Reference List.
Review protocols:
1 Review the med_chngs_current.txt and med_chngs_prior.txt files included in
the update for medication codes that are now obsolete.
2 Go to Administration and select Chart > Protocols.
3 Find each protocol that refers to an obsolete medication and click Change.
4 Switch to the Population section and select Medications.
5 Select the obsolete medication, then click Change. Use Change Protocol
Medication to select the new code.
Also if you import custom lists from the CCC updates it will add all of the meds back that you previously removed/changed from the CCC custom lists. I select individual clinical kits to import rather than doing them all.
