How do I update a Medication from Schedule 5 to 4 in the EMR (Tramadol)?
As you may know, I need the providers DEA to now print with this prescription.
Thanks in Advance.
I actually asked our VAR to figure out a way to hard code this for us until we upgrade to CPS12. If they figure out how to do it I'll ask them how they did and share!
If you're worried just about printing the DEA, you could edit the Rx Crystal Reports to include an 'if-then' Formula or suppression on a DEA field.
By med name or by classcode (although you'd have to add the MEDINFO table for class).
Thank You Tessa and James.
I talked with GE and they said that I would just need to wait for the next medication update (Worth a shot).
Of course they did. If I depended on GE for support, I'd have a different EMR by now.

You just won the internet. 🙂
It looks like Tramadol was not changed in the latest (August) Knowledgebase and as a result, the DEA is still not printing on the scripts. Can anyone confirm or deny?
Did you actually get an August kbase update? What version are you on? We're still on the February kbase in 10.1.3.312, were told by our VAR that GE doesn't plan to release any new updates for 10 while they focus on fixing 12. Grrr, argh.
We are on 12 and we installed the August update. The Tramadol update was not done as far as I can tell. Would love to know of a way to update it ourselves in the database. Otherwise, we'll probably hack the crystal report for the script to just print the DEA all of the time.
But there IS also an August update for 10 available for download on the GE site. It's actually the same download as the 12 update, just a different inf to execute for the older versions. So I'm not sure what your VAR is talking about in this case. Perhaps they are confusing "knowledgebase" with "service pack?"
They generally like to do some testing before they inflict a kbase update on us, so maybe they're just being cautious after the clunky one was released in June.
The VAR may have been referring to an issue in the CPS 10 February KB update that could break a number of patient charts to where the application would crash while in an update in those charts. Very easy to duplicate in our database. Our workaround was to upgrade to CPS 12 which fixed that issue, but now we have random crashing throughout the application (like most everyone else).
Does anyone know if the medication classification listed in a patient's chart (Cardiovascular Agent, Hematological Agent) can be changed? Or is this information provided by the knowledgebase updates? For example, one of the classification changes we are looking to make is for Aspirin. The physicians prescribe Aspirin for Cardiovascular Disease rather than for pain, however, Aspirin shows up on the chart as an Analgesics and Anesthetics. Any idea how to change these?
Thanks!
