We're looking at investing in some new client workstations for the providers. What do your providers use? Notebooks? Thin client laptops? PCs with wired connections? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. Please include your version of CPS or EMR.
We are currently getting Lenovo Helix tablets for providers that want to use a stylus and we like the HP Elite Book 840 for the ones that just want to be portable with out touch screen. The battery life has been great for both. No more swapping batteries, just charge during lunch and ready for the after noon.
We are using wired PCs as glorified thin clients for our providers. With the added functionality of a PC it didn't make sense to us to purchase high end thin clients. We have a plethora of thin clients as well. We use the latest version of citrix receiver using the storefront. I have an IE link to the store front running in kiosk mode so when the PC starts it asks them to log into the citrix session immediately and it is full screen as not to confuse them. Our citrix boxes run 2008 R2 standard. I have also installed citrix receiver on whichever device they require, PC, mac, ipad for similar functionality. We are running CPS 12 sp 11.
We have a mixture in our sites - some sites are using laptops and carrying into exam rooms while others sites use a thin client in the exam rooms. We are on CPS 12.0.10 Patch 4 in a terminal server environment. The providers and nurses who do not carry laptops login to the thin client and "steal" the terminal server session from their desktop, and when they go back to their office they "steal" it back.

Depends on the clinic for my company. Some have standardized on desktops in every room and other laptops. We use Citrix for both.
Not to high jack the thread but we have one standard windows log in which is on the domain for our pod PCs. It gets automatically logged in and then the Citrix storefront loads on IE in kiosk mode. We run into the problem sometimes that Citrix receiver refuses to install or run on a PC that has a domained username. I have even tried to install the Citrix receiver on a different administrator user (which seems to install and run fine while on that user) but then when we log it back into the generic pod account (even with administrative privileges) it refuses to run. At that point we just assign that PC a local account and reinstall and run Citrix receiver without an issue. Myself and our IT group is completely baffled by this. New PCs we are choosing not to put on the domain but that leaves some security risk which we are not comfortable with either.
