Hi All -
We started deploying Win 7 PC's with EMR 9.5 SP4 and we have been using the Logitech C310 Web Cams. We had great success with XP as it was simply plug and play. With Win 7 you had to download and install the drivers (no big deal) however, we are running into a problem where unless the user is in the local admin group, the camera's fail to aquire the pictures from within the EMR. UAC is off and the logitech software (not just the drivers) appear to not have any issues getting the pictutre .... only from within the EMR.
Has anyone run into anything like this before or any possible direction to help troubleshoot?
As always, thank you in advance for any help!
we had a similar problem with Windows 7 and found the problem for us to be related to our XENAPP 6.5 farm. Are you using that platform?
We do have some CITRIX only locations however this particular location is using local installs of the EMR only.
Try this, create an empty text file in the root of the C: drive called capture.avi and give everyone full access to that file. That's what we have to do to make the webcams work correctly.
This was something GE promises to fix "in a future version". I did not yet try it on CPS 12 (test environment) but the problem is an improper use of the API which controls the process. There is a facility to pass a directory name like c:\temp but the developers at GE just skipped this. As a result the capture.avi is being written on c:\ which you would need to be an admin to have write access there. GE seems to be OK with this as it has been that way for multiple versions. There is a thread here on the forum somewhere where a product defect was filed but I never got a number for it to track

Thank you both for the suggestion and background on the issue. I tried adding the capture.avi txt file and giving full rights to it and still got the "Failed to acquire image from device" error message. I even went so far as giving Full rights to the C: drive for users and still no luck. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chad
Do you have the Logitech software running at startup? Can you capture with the camera outside the EMR?
Not the software ... just the drivers from their website. During the software install you have the option of the app and driver and just the drivers. The first one we attempted to use on the WIN 7 box did have the software and it was pulling the image.... we didn't try saving it but I can reinstall it and see if that makes a difference.
I think I found the orignal post you mentioned .... If you do a search for "User permissions for webcam" it comes up.
