I was wondering if anyone is currently using iPads as their tablets? We are a smaller office and using Tough books currently. They are going to need to be replaced soon and we were looking at iPads for the Dr.s and Nurses.
We are currently running CPS 10, if anyone has any experience with the combo they would like to share that would be great!
Thanks!
I have used an iPad with RDP and Citrix connections for Centricity. Both leave much to be desired. Your main complaint will be the screen resolution - too small. Overall I do not use my iPad unless I work from home or other remote sites.
On another note, I have an ASUS transformer tablet running Android OS that I have used via RDP and Citrix as well. It seems to perform better (faster) and the screen resolution is better, given the ASUS screen size is larger.
Hope this helps,
Sam
Sometimes you get better success with an ipad if you use a third party pen.
there are tons on amazon for an ipad 'stylus'
We use the motion tablet, it has touch or pen, first user reaction was to be pen only. Maybe that will help you.

Sam,
Our doctors are very interested in using a tablet. We do not use cloud, we host our own servers. Do you know if these would work for this type of enviroment?
Thanks,
Stephanie
We did a trial with a of iPads in the clinic, with nurses as well as docs. The upshot was cautiously positive, as long as a keyboard was also provided for text-intensive tasks. typing in a small amount on the on-screen kbd was ok, but anything more required both screen real estate and a full keyboard.
What actually killed the iPads for us was installation of Midmark vitals meters, which push data directly to EMR, but require a usb port. Because these meters work over Citrix and can be moved from computer to computer, it trumped the iPads.
It may best to remember that the system has to be more efficient than using a sit down station. so your forms and method of charting have to be touch ready. So that people can save time while carrying around the ipad.
I agree with dclothier text intensive things are always the hardest due to the on screen keyboard or an attachable keyboard. So if you have anyway to modify forms to be made for touch, buttons (make big ones), and drop down boxes for selection it breeds the success.
We are hosted by GE through Citrix and have more than 50% of our providers using an iPad. I agree with the posts above that there is much to be desired. Citrix cannot print and is at times very clunky.
We have tested it with Windows 8 Pro and it seems to work VERY well. When the Surface Pro comes out it may be our device of choice.
