Hello,
I'm a new IT admin for a practice in Texas.
We use CPS12. The Windows Update kb3161608 is causing issues with Centricity login. We got an email from our CPS vendor/re-seller explaining this the day before it happened.
Now everyday I have to remove the update from our servers and desktops that people use to login to CPS.
The re-seller support told me to simply disable automatic updates... which I do not want to do as it opens up other doors for other issues. This is simply not a good solution or workaround.
Does anyone here know a workaround for this issue?
Thanks.
Do you have a WSUS server setup? If so, you can block that KB from being installed onto the pc's of the practice.
If not, then you will pretty much just have to tell each pc to ignore the update.
If you dont have one setup, I would highly recommend setting it up as it will help you schedule when you want updates applied.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I found the WSUS server and am currently working with it but not all the clients are reporting in so I have to figure that out as well.
I did approve removal of the update and ran some gpupdate /force commands on clients but it still seems to be sketchy. I'm working on it. 🙂
I was hoping someone had a quick and easy regedit trick to keep something from happening or something similar to that.
Thanks a lot.
Agreed 100% with ErnieT, if you have a network big enough for a domain controller then you should be running WSUS, even if you set it not to store the updates minimally you can control them. We have to many issues with bad updates, or updates to new versions of IT that cause problems to just allow Microsoft to dictate what we install.
Thank you as well for your quick response.
I appreciate it.
Wish I did. We got hit with it also but thankfully we had a staggered update schedule so only manually had to do the removal on a few pc's. We were able to block the rest from updating to it.
I hope microsoft gets enough complaints on it that they will issue an updated KB for it. It had quite a few security updates in that one Rollup KB.
How would I go about lodging a complaint with MS on the KB?
I've never attempted to do that before.
EDIT: You know what... I"ll just google that. Sorry.
Thanks everyone for all the help.
This worked on Centricity EMR Evaluation version. The registry change shown in this article will let EMR load. I copied the code, created a .reg file, ran it and didn't have to bounce the PC or JBoss, next time I launched EMR it started up. I still had the offending update installed on my Windows 10 machine.

Found that article from these links

This is confusing to me since the Centricity login page comes up but we can't login.
Your fix seems to be centered around websites that can't be visited.
Aren't these two different issues or am I missing something?
Thanks for the help and links.. i'm reading up on them now.
However... are you saying this ALSO fixes the CPS login issue with kb3161608?
FYI GE just released a work around for the JBOSS server that fixes the issue.
