Does anybody have any suggestions on how they're meeting or trying to mee the patient specific education measure. In the past we were using the medication handouts but we'd like to try and get away from that since the handouts are so long and the patient will get information from the pharamcy anyway. Thank you for your help.
Hi,
Do you use CEMR or CPS? We've found that the CQR is counting patients as met if they have ever received "patient education" so our providers are passing based on previous MU work (the prescription handouts). CMS does not define a timeline on when the patient education should have been given - I find it fishy that it is all time in the CQR but... - so that may be OK. This is also a shared measure, or so we've found (basically if any doctor ever printed the RX handout all providers who see that patient in the reporting period get credit).
The only other option is the truven buttons - apparently in 9.8.9 (I think, maybe 9.8.8?) the Truven button will be moved to the new medication and problem screens so it is a little easier to access. The other option is to create custom reports for MU functional measures.
Thanks
Mike
This is what our team came up with, and it would work with anything you have in Handouts:

It would be great if the CHUG forum discussions would link up better to prevent the same threads reoccurring. Hope this is helpful. We haven't completely rolled it out to all of our sections yet but have tested it is counting in CQR.
Pvassaur, can you explain further what you are doing with your post? Did you specifially create a button within a form that will look at Truven handouts to be counted for MU?
Thanks
