First of all, Does anybody know if this measure was definitely removed from the meaningful use measures as we all had hoped. I have been looking over past post and all over the site to see if I can find an answer to this question. I've been to CMS website and searched google. Can't really see any clear answer to this question. If the answer is no they didn't take it out then I would appreciate if anyone could tell me if there is a way to use the Inquiry Report tool to select patients that have seen a particular provider within the last 24 months. So far I've been trying to do this using the responsible provider and date of last visit but we are a multi specialty group and the responsible provider is often changed after the a specialty visit. So I am unable to get all the patients that I need. Thanks
CMS has not yet given us the final word on what they are going to use for MU attestation for 2015. I spoke with soemone who ususally has the inside scoop on those things and he said he would not expect anything till after Labor Day. So we are left hanging at this point. I would also like to know if anyone has coemup with crystal report or an inquiry that we could run to get the data because I as you am sure we are meeting the measure but getting 0% in CQR reporting.
Terry
I wish I could answer that question. I keep checking to see if the proposed rules have been finalized yet. Does anyone have any updates on this? Thanks, Lynn
I would probably say you would have to run a SQL report based on a couple criteria.
1. Provider
2. Diagnosis
3. Last appointment with that provider that was related to that diagnosis
You will also need a SQL script that can change said patient's preferred method of contact to LETTER and hope that it doesn't interfere with any other means for that field, say patient call reminders.
I don't have a SQL report available but it would seem that would be the criteria one would need. Personally, I have my fingers crossed that this is going to be removed.
Per our MU guru, Justine Smith, CMS was supposed to have published their final ruling on this by the end of July but we have yet to see this come out. We are all assuming they will get rid of the Patient Reminders but we cannot say for sure until they publish the final ruling.
We can use the inquiry tool to pull a list of patients who have had an appointment in the last 24 months. The term to use for this in inquiries is "Date of Last Office Visit is on or after" and a date of two years prior to the start of your reporting period. We can also narrow this down to the patients with a particular responsible provider. That gives us a list of patients seen in the last two years. Don't forget to incorporate patient preferred method of contact. If you're sending letters, this must be letter. This is how CQR knows this was met.
If you need more detail, you can use Analytics or Crystal Reports to pull a more detailed report. Most developers can certainly help you write this query. Letters would then have to be generated individually.
I hope this helps!
Have anyone heard anything about the Stage1 Menu 4 patient reminders? Are they changing that as well? Because we don't use "letter" as our contact method and that puts us in the same boat with our Stage 1 providers as we are with our stage 2 Preventive reminders.
Thanks for the responses. I did a test run on a shorter period of time than the 2 years using reports inquiry tool. Ran 81 letters using the actionable letter. The search criteria I used was "Date of Last Office Visit is on or after" "responsible provider" "preferred contact method Letter". Out of the 81 letters none of them hit in meaningful use measure. We still have a big fat zero. We are a specialty and the only way we can think to hit this measure is by using it as an advertising tool. So say we have surgeons who need to met this measure (which by the way is ridiculous). They see people for gallbladders, abscesses, breast and colon cancer, hernias, etc. But they also do colonoscopies so we picked this protocol and try to send letters to anyone who hasn't had a colonoscopy recorded in our files whose of the appropriate age. Anyone who has seen one of the surgeons could get a letter regarding the benefits of finding colon polyps in preventing cancer. Call and schedule and appointment, etc. etc. Is it because we are not using a diagnosis code and using an obs term to do the search (COLONNXTDUE). I don't know would love to have answers to this whole debacle as we have struggled for 3 years with this measure. It was what prevented some or our providers from meeting MU 1 last year.
