I'm just wondering if there are any users out there that use the "Add" from the attachments pane in the EMR portion of Centricity (we are on CPS 12.1) currently all of the images done (and there are a lot) are scanned and indexed through Document Manager which of course converts to a pdf. I'd really like to know if there are users that use the Add from the Attachments pane and utilize the functionality of being able to view, annotate, compare images, use the key word function etc. Seems like this is SUCH great functionality, but does it cause the system to bog down? My understanding is that the images themselves should reside on a dedicated server and then they are accessed in EMR via a link - not the whole file. Does this really cause a slowdown? This is what I'm being told by our IT dept, and I'd love to hear from someone that uses this.
It depends on the file size. We use a mix of scanning through document management, index logic and attaching directly in CPS. The data base server does take a hit but it's a rather small one (Our DB server is pretty beefy). We mainly use direct attaching to store EOB's in billing tickets.
So you use the attachments in the clinical side of Centricity for the EOB? I would have thought of using that only for clinical information, ultrasound images, x-ray images, skin healing images and that kind of thing.
We're on CPS. We attach the EOB's to the billing tickets in the PM (practice management) side of CPS. We also have the capabilities to attach directly in the EMR side but we chose to use third party programs for that.
In CPS, internal attachments (PM or EMR) are saved to the same location, which is the database server. Because of that "hit" the server takes, we decided to only allow internal attachments for billing purposes.
That is understandable. I'd like to find out if there is anyone that uses that Add Attachments functionality in the EMR side of CPS, since it does have some very nice capabilities it would be interesting to know if there are some out there that are taking advantage of that piece.
