Hi Chuggers,
Might be too soon to ask but has anyone started making the switch to HTML forms for their custom VFE forms? We have a lot of VFE forms and would like to standardize these much more than they are right now. Rather than starting a huge project in VFE to standardize, we are wondering if making an HTML switch would be smarter. Has anyone made the switch or in the process? I have watched some Clinical Forge videos, any other product doing this right now?
Any thoughts are welcome.
Thanks and Happy New Year!
Amy,
we started developing all new forms last year in the new HTML format and we will be continuing that transition into the New Year. I use Clinical Forge to do the bulk of the development, and on rare occasions, will modify the JavaScript code manually using a good text editor. Clinical Forge continues to mature, and I personally feel it is an acceptable replacement for Visual Form Builder. That said, we still pay for VFE so that we can support the legacy forms that were developed. You will find that the HTML environment is far more flexible, and because of that, will elevate the importance of designing your forms with some standardization and a consistent look and feel. As with most transitions, there is a learning curve. While Clinical Forge can accommodate much of the heavy lifting, you will feel a lot more comfortable if you have some basic understanding of JavaScript. I am always interested in connecting with other developers and form designers, so please stay in touch if you decide to take the plunge. I'm happy to share my experiences at any time.
Cheers,
Greg
This is exactly what I was thinking. Appreciate the information. Sounds like this is the route we will be going soon! Will keep your information to connect-- Thanks! Amy
Check out the open source project $mdObject ( https://github.com/mdObject/GECentricity). It's independent of any systems and runs under Microsoft Public License (MS-PL). The $mdObject has been converted to typescript and Angular4.
Also, check out free videos: http://mdobject.com/training as well.
Just wanted to give you a heads up that at Logical Innovations we are currently working on a method to transition to HTML forms from your current encounter forms so that you wouldn't need to completely rewrite them. We are making good progress on the conversion functionality and would anticipate that it would be available later this year. Although we are excited about some of the new capabilities, we are trying to work with GE on some of the remaining limitations of HTML forms and how they appear to users. If we can't find an acceptable resolution for these issues we will need to try to work on more complex workarounds.
We also anticipate that our final solution will allow a continued hybrid that would support MEL for much functionality so that not all users would need to learn JavaScript if they just want to create basic content and already know MEL.
I'm very interested to see what you come up with. If you need any beta testers I would be interested.
Dr. Thompson this is great news! We have a lot of prep work and consolidating to do (over 350 forms in our system that are active) so hopefully our timing will be perfect with yours. I will keep in touch!
Amy
Great to hear this!
