What are the rest of you doing to allow patients to enter their current medications from an eForm? I can't see any way to do it except to use a free-text field. But then it wouldn't go into the medications module of CPS.
We would be curious of what others are doing as well. Right now we are in the process of modifying our work flow.
Currently we have an open text box and give specific instructions,
We are having our front desk at check in ask if they have a list with them, if so they won't complete this section of the form.
Currently, I am not aware of any program that will write directly to the medication table in Centricity.
We use a free text field in the portal that writes to an observation term. We then use a data display within the office visit to show the staff/providers the medications entered by the patient. This data display is next to the section where meds are entered so the staff can refer to the patient's entry as they enter/review the medications in the system.
Hope that helps.

Amanda, I really like what you are doing, I'm going to look into that work flow for our office. We currently pull up the PDF attachment on one screen and the chart on the other screen and add that way. This will help our workflow. Thank you for sharing 🙂

I think it would be nice to get this information into the EMR. Has anyone put in an enhancement request with GE?
Just to play devil's advocate... is it wise to allow a patient to enter clinical information into their own chart? Simple demographic changes or notes, sure. But do you really want them writing their own med list directly to the chart? I would think a human buffer would be preferable. Added to which, would they not need to select their meds from some kind of lookup? Free-texting would surely result in a lot of uncoded meds, right?
This is the exact reason we use a data display for the information. The staff can view the information from the patient, but still have to enter the information themselves. This allows us to ask for clarification if needed.
