We are in the process of activating the family management option in our patient portal, but I’ve wondered about how to register the pediatric patients in our pediatric practice who’s parent (s) are not registered as patients in the portal. We can only use one email address per family in the portal, and wondered how we could register multiple peds patients who ‘s parents are not registered in the portal, other than using a separate email for each patient. We register the account under the parents name and email. The parent is not linked to a chart because they are not a patient. Then we add the children to that account (1 or more). This way the parent can log in and see records for them and does receive email notifications of messages.

We are using the same method as Cecil. It is working for us currently. We only implemented our Portal Oct. 1, 2014
