We are an Orthopedic practice and are about to launch our Patient Portal.
I am interested in finding out how other offices are verifying identity and distributing the patient's PIN.
Who in your office is responsible for these tasks? (i.e. Telecommunications, Receptionist, Registration, clinic staff, etc.)
What is the process?
Your feedback is appreciated.

We purchased the PIN form from MD EMR Consulting. Our registrars are responsible for collecting/verifying email addresses from the patients. Our front office staff at each individual department then offers the PIN to patients at discharge (nurses may also do it in the rooming process). The patient banner automatically updates to show the status as either pending or declined to eliminate repeated questioning of the patient. The way we have our process set up, the PIN is issued from the chart and when the patient completes the cycle they do the verifying process by matching information with what we have. This takes the workload away from staff.
