We are using Surescripts Patient Portal. When a patient receives a PIN from us and tries to register, an email address is required for them. Is there a way for us to setup so that an email address is not required to register for the portal?
I REALLY don't think so. The application is very email-centic. Also, what is the point of portal access without an email address since this is how communication is established?
There may be tricks around this, but beware of the downstream issues. The email in GE Logician needs to match whatever the patient uses to connect. Otherwise, they may be able to contact you, but you would not be able to respond. Or more specifically, your doctors would be responding but who know where the responses would go.
If this is to accomplish MU, then there may be better approaches.
Thank you for the response. I guess there wouldn't be a way to reply back. And it is for MU. Most of our patient population don't have email addresses. So I was trying explore other possibilities.
We use patient's cell phone to set up an email account that will send them a text message (we do this through a SMS to text conversion). The text message only has a link to the portal website so they still need to have internet access, but at least they know when a message has been sent.
