We are going to be upgrading to CPS12 and are having discussions about using Active Directory or the EMR applicaton to setup users. We would appreicate any feedback that anyone could provide on advantages or disadvantages of both. Thanks in advance

I was excited to finally get AD integration when we upgraded to version 9 many years ago but now I really want to go back. At this point it seems like AD integration is extra work with no benefit because you have to do so much within CPS that it make the AD part just an extra step. Also, we encounter a certain error which is traced to special characters in passwords so I am unable to enable the Active Directory "Complexity requirements" as part of any AD password policy. I was told this by GE support, on a very specific case which other users' here seems to never encounter. We encountered this on multiple occasions so I know it to be true since the fix to change the password solved our problem.
Another benefit for me would be to hand off all CPS setup to other department managers/CPS managers and not require them to know how to set up users in AD. It would help me get a better handle on security, too, because we seem to have AD groups and CPS groups both providing access to users now. I am not sure who did it but it happened as some CPS managers set up users. I would rather have it one or the other but not both.
The downside would be "another login" as people put it, so user training would be important so the users don't get confused

Thanks Mike. That is some food for thought.
