Orders management - I'm developing a workflow to assist the providers in resolving old orders that are in process. The nursing staff periodically runs a report for "in process" orders and uses that list to follow up with the patient to determine if the test was ever performed. However, I'd like to find a way to indicate that an "in process" order is being worked so I wonder if there are ramifications to marking them by changing the status to admin hold. If I change the status to admin hold, I could run separate reports for "in process" vs "admin hold" to help the nurses know if an old order is being addressed already. Is there a reason that I should not use admin hold for this purpose?

I see no reason why you couldn't use Admin Hold to indicate you are working an order. It makes sense then you can differentiate between the ones being worked and the ones still "In Process".
We acutally do the oposite. When an order is placed and signed, it is on admin hold. Once the staff schedules the test and gets the auth number, they then turn the order into "in process". I run reports for our offices once a month. These reports include orders that are on admin hold for tests and referrals as well as in process for tests and referrals. Once we get the documentation back for either test or referral, the order then is placed to the status of complete.
