Is there any way to get a multi-line edit box to have more than 2000 characters? The goal is to have a scrollable editable region that users can paste data into. With a multi-line edit field, there is a hard stop at 2000 characters. Any solutions or work-arounds that are better than asking the user to break it up into 4 different pages/variables I would appreciate.
Greg
If you push more than 2000 characters at once, I have found that it will take them but you can not edit the information in it at all. Once you try to edit the text, it then recognizes the 2000 limit and will not do anything until you par it down to 2000 characters.
The limit is set due to the field size in the database. GE capped the limit at 2000 characters to help with the database size and for read time.
So no way right now to up that amount that I have found.
Thanks, I got the same info from Logical Innovations (Creator of VFE). Seems like a crazy limitation but I guess they have their reasons. I'll come up with some wild work around. Thanks for the expertise.

a data display does not have a character limit however observations and doctemps are limited at 2000 characters.
I have a phone note that sort of does what you ask however the added data is always appended to the end. You can't place it in the middle.
There is a work around.
Our transcriptionists type everything into Word first then paste it into our custom HPI form. They frequently exceed the 2000 character limit. What we've done is created a single multiline edit box which displays up to 6000 characters. When the transcriptionist pastes into the box, it writes to 3 observation terms. It is fully editable as well, but you must re-write the values after editing so we have a "save button". I can send you the clinical kit if you'd like to take it for a test drive…

Chris,
Would you mind sharing with me as well. We run into this issue with several doctors still using transcription. Thanks, Misty
