Happy Monday!
Looking if there is a way to change a patient's repsonsible provider in registration through a VFE form.
We have a lot of workflow issues for our acutely ill patients who present and see the first available provider to get to their exam room rather than their regular "responsible provider".
Any thoughts or workflow issues would be appreciated.

Are you a family practice clinic?
I don't know a way to use a VFE form to change the responsible provider. I was thinking more of a Procedure that should be implemented in your clinic.
Our responsible provider (we call PCP on the banner) is determined at registration, even though they might see someone else the first time.
Hi. Yes, we are a multi-specialty practice. We do determine responsible
provider at the time of registration. However, this may change based on which
provider is first available to see the patient once they are in an exam room. The provider who we deem responsible may not be the person who actually sees the patient. This is a problem with our VERY high volume offices. Doctors/clinical staff do
not have the time to change fields in the registration module. That is why I
was hoping to put it into a form.

I hope someone answers you, I'm a beginner VFE person. I can ask my advance template guy.
We have the same situation but we are only family practice; even though the patient sees someone different their first time with a different responsible provider. For us, it depends on how big the panel size and the patient can ask to switch if the provider panel size allows it.
Totally understand that the staff doesn't have time to change the responsible provider.
In short you can't do this. Centricity doesnt support updating registration from the EMR and there is not functionality to do so in VFE forms. Its possible to write an outside app to accomplish this but that's like writing your own patient portal (or a big piece of it anyway). A workflow solution is going to be your best bet.
Thanks Michael for responding (saved me from asking my IT guy).
Thank you for the response.
Not sure if this will help your workflow, but we use responsible provider bit differently. We are a multispecialty practice as well. We leave the registration responsible provider as whoever initally saw the patient and established care. For the other specialties we add a directive that is pushed to the patient banner. This way, you can see the responsible provider for each specialty from the banner.
Also, assuming that you start your update at the time of service in the name of the provider seeing the patient, you could use DOCUMENT.RESPONSIBLE to populate an obs term for reporting.
Hope this helps 🙂
Thank you for the response.
