We're looking for a best practice for setting up refillable prescriptions that require fax/physical presence.
In a previous query of this nature, Dr. George Smith replied, "When I have had this problem, I enter the medication 3 times - each with a different instruction and Centricity (CPS 9.5) considers it 3 medications. The first Rx has my standard instructions, e.g "1 tab 4 times daily for pain" and I add "NOT TO BE FILLED UNTIL 30 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF THIS PRESCRIPTION." Now I can add the same drug to the list with the 60 day instruction, and finally I add the Rx with just the standard instructions. 90 days later when the patient comes in, I can simply refill each of the 3 medications. Humans think it's 3 prescriptions for the same medication. Centricity sees it as 3 different meds."
Is there a more automated workflow than this?
Thank you for your consideration and assistance
Wondering if you ever found a workflow that is efficient - we are a surgeon group who prescribe mainly prescriptions which require fax/physical presence. We have struggled with the best workflow since going live on the EMR.
Thanks
