Hello, I am hoping that there might be some information anyone can share with using the protocol creation in GE 9.5. Pardon me if I may not be exactly clear on what I am looking for. I am a new user in 9.5 and I will be responsible for creating various protocols. I have been told that the "canned" protocols in our current system are out of date, and that I would need to create various protocols based on various Clinical Quality Measures that we are involved with in various grants at our faciility (like QUARR, JCHAO, HEDIS, etc). I am having some difficulty understanding the logic behind the protocol creation and hope that anyone might have some advice to share.
I will be checking in for follow up and will hopefully be able to provide more examples of what I am talking about in the next day or so.
Thank you for your time and assistance to anyone that responds.
Hi - We don't have those protocols defined to offer up, but you can find the protocol definitions under:
Go -> Setup -> Settings -> Chart -> Protocols
The help file has some decent info on creating and modifying them. However if you do find a site that has already built them you should be able to import them as clinical kits.
Thank you for your response. Here is an example of what I am trying to accomplish in regards to at least one specific protocol that I am trying to create. Patients 50 to 80 years of age should have a colonoscopy performed every 5 years or can have a hemoccult performed every year. (can these two type of observations be combined into one specific protocol? And if so, how is this done.
Below is what displays when I select "protocols" while opening and encounter. I am also a bit confused in regards to the obsterm of COLONNXTDUE.
Protocol "DRAFT MHHC Colonoscopy" :
Patients of
either sex with an age of greater than 50 years, and less than 80 years[WD1].
Should have the
following:
Test Schedule Last Done Last Rslt
Status
---------------- ----------------------- ----------- ---------- ------------
COLONNXTDUE [WD2] Every
5 years
Due Now
‘COLONOSCOPY’ obsDATE is in last 5 yrs
OR
‘COLONNXTDUE’ obsVALUE is
less than today’s date
OR
combine with
Hemocults
Text above are notes from my supervisor. I am not exactly clear what she is meaning here. Bottom line is I want to know if I can combine the Colonoscopy along with hemoccult so that a provider has an "either or" situation in the protocol presented.
Does this make sense? I have read several times the help section under protocols, and honestly, I am still very confused exactly how this activity works.

“Preload” form and see clinical list change
Protocol "DRAFT MHHC Hemocult" :
Patients of

Should have the
following:

Status

----------------------- ----------- ---------- ------------
HEMOCCULT 1 Every 12 months Due Now
or HEMOCCULT 2
or HEMOCCULT 3
this 75 years
‘COLONOSCOPY’ obsDATE is in last 5 yrs

Hello,
I was wondering if you were ever able to settle the issue of the either/or protocol. I've run into the same difficulty with trying to make sensible and non-redundant reminders about colon cancer screening. For the patients who've had the colonoscopy, I don't want to be reminded that their fecal occult blood testing is due. Conversely, for those who've opted for annual testing, I'd prefer not to be reminded that their colonoscopy is due when they just had stool card testing three months ago.
Have you solved this riddle?
Thanks in advance.
Actually, I think that is the riddle I was trying to solved in the first place. The answer is, no, I have not been able to figure it out. The whole protocol creation is just not user friendly if you ask me. Certainly, there are instructions on how to do it, but I feel they are not very clear. I still need to play around with it some more to get a clear picture of exactly what the system wants me to do in creating them. If you have any luck or find out a way to solve the riddle, I would appreciate it.
